on discipline and momentum

I lost some of both, while traveling internationally the past two weeks.

I’m ready to get back to it. It’s been almost a month since I last hit publish, the longest break I’ve taken since starting the blog.

James Clear talks about the ‘minimum effective dose’ (MED) —the smallest step you can take today to move your habit in a positive direction. My habit of writing about topics I’m exploring needs a push, so this is my publishing MED.

Also, here are a few other things I’ve been thinking about, but that I don’t want to research much further (at this point):

  • Why doesn’t the Supreme Court have a retirement age? Currently, 31 states and Washington DC have mandatory retirement ages for judges, with the most common age set at 70, while a few states have higher limits, including Vermont at age 90.
  • While watching Air on an airplane (pretty solid movie), I learned the Nike slogan “Just do it” was inspired from a death row inmate’s final words “Lets do It“. Why isn’t there a book on famous final words? I’d read it.
  • Does LA have enough freeways? Yes, but in 1958 developers almost built a freeway through Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.
